Reminder - Revitalizing the Downtown – Street Closures over the Next Few Days

Gatineau, September 22, 2016. – Over the next few days, there will be a number of street closures in downtown Gatineau as part of its revitalization.

Quick facts

Urban renewal and repairs to municipal services at Laval-Kent-Aubry

Promenade du Portage will be completely closed to automobile traffic between Laval and Leduc starting on September 19. It is expected to reopen on September 30.
This closure is required for renewal of the Laval and promenade du Portage intersection.
In order to facilitate detours, street parking will be suspended on the following streets:
- Leduc, between promenade du Portage and Hôtel-de-Ville; and
- Hôtel-de-Ville (north side), between Laval and Kent.

Repairs to municipal services on rue Papineau

The work will take place at the corner of rue Eddy, and will require traffic closures of two portions of rue Papineau. Thus, rue Papineau will be closed as of September 26 as follows:
- between Saint-Rédempteur and Leduc; and
- between Leduc and Hélène-Duval.
The Leduc and Papineau intersection will remain open in the north-south direction.
The Papineau and Eddy intersection is expected to reopen on October 1.
In order to facilitate detours, street parking will be suspended on the following streets:
- Vaudreuil, between Eddy and Leduc;
- Leduc, between Wellington and Garneau; and
- Garneau, near the intersection with Eddy.

Impact

Cars and buses will have to make detours.
Pedestrian traffic will not be affected.
In order to avoid the construction zones, the Société de transport de l'Outaouais (STO) has modified some of its routes. Check at sto.ca for details.
These closures are necessary to complete the work.
Residents are asked to comply with the temporary signs indicating the detours around the construction zones. Where necessary, flaggers will be on site to direct the traffic.
Please note that the municipal parking lot at 15 rue Leduc is open and free from Sunday to Saturday between 5 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Local businesses will remain open and accessible while the work is underway.
Every effort will be made to limit the impact on local businesses and residents.

Quick facts

Please note that work on the municipal roads may be extended due to bad weather.
This work will make the downtown a more welcoming place, and will provide the opportunity to repair municipal services.
Ville de Gatineau thanks the public for its usual cooperation.
