Call-out to Victims: Forcible Confinement and Aggravated Assault Following an Online Dating Site Encounter

Gatineau, July 23, 2020. – On July 10, the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) arrested Collin David Robinson, 43, in connection with a complaint of forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and death threats made to his victim, whom he met on an online dating site.

The SPVG has reason to believe that there are other victims.

Modus operandi

●	The suspect met the victim on the Plenty of Fish dating site. He gave his name as David Davidson, and has a Facebook profile with that name.

●	He also appeared to be active on the Meet Me site, and to have used the names “Big Red” and/or “Magic Hand”.

●	After a first meeting, Collin D. Robinson and the victim spent three days together in late June at her house in the Hull sector in Gatineau, during which time he forcibly confined her out of jealousy after finding out that she had contacted a former boyfriend through Facebook.

●	The suspect allegedly beat the victim violently several times and made death threats to her.

●	It was only when the victim's brother showed up at her place that the suspect finally left to return home, thereby ending her ordeal.

Quick facts

●	The victim was taken to hospital, and was treated for fractured ribs and multiple bruises and lacerations.

●	As a result of their investigation, the police were able to identify the suspect and track him down in Ontario.

●	Collin David Robinson was arrested at his home in Brockville, Ontario. He is known to the Ottawa police but was not known to the SPVG.

●	He faces charges of mischief, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, aggravated assault causing harm and uttering threats.

●	He will remain in detention throughout the judicial process.

But it is important to remember that there is no shame in having been a victim of a violent person following an online meeting or in any other situation.”
