Water levels dropping – Shoreline residents can dismantle their dikes

Gatineau, May 30, 2022. – Water levels in the Gatineau River began dropping at the end of the day yesterday. Gatineau invites residents who wish to do so to dismantle their dikes. The sand bags should be placed alongside the road, spread out lengthways. They will be collected on Thursday, June 2 and 9.

Quick facts

●	Sandbags must be placed on the street, at the curb, to allow circulation of emergency vehicles.

●	After June 9, it will be up to residents to bring their sand bags to the disposal site (location to be announced).

●	It should be noted that municipal crews will not dismantle any dikes.

●	The City remains mobilized and continue to monitor the situation.

●	Shoreline residents are asked to keep checking for information on our: - social media; - website; or - alerts.

Financial assistance programs

Shoreline residents, organizations and victims can apply for financial assistance to cover costs incurred in preparing for an actual or imminent disaster: - Financial assistance and compensation provided by Quebec's ministère de la Sécurité publique for property owners and tenants; and - Financial assistance provided for municipalities affected by a disaster and for community organizations.
