Flood update: Slight decrease in water levels, but shoreline property owners should remain vigilant

Gatineau, May 7, 2023. – Although the trend in water levels suggest that these will decrease very shortly, residents should nonetheless remain vigilant and leave all their protections in place. Even though the situation is encouraging, it still remains precarious. Water levels will remain high for another week or two, and could rise again in the event of heavy rainfall.

Collection of residual materials

The collection of residual materials along chemin Fraser (garbage and compost) and chemin du Fer-à-Cheval (recycling and compost) will be replaced by containers and brown bins for the collection on Monday, May 8. The containers and brown bins will be in the following locations from 6 p.m. today until 3 p.m. on Monday:
- across from 233 rue du Quai; and
- at the intersection of rue Minervois and chemin Fraser, at the southeast corner.
- It should be noted that these containers are for flood victims only.

Watch out for waves

Gatineau reminds everyone to avoid driving through the flooded areas, and to reduce their speed on roads that are under water. Fast and dense traffic creates waves that could cause more damage.
The Service de police (SPVG) and the Service de sécurité incendie (SSIG) will be patrolling in and around the flooded areas to ensure that the public is aware of the impact of the waves on flood victims.
The federal government has issued a prohibition against water craft on the Ottawa River on the Quebec side. Sureté du Québec will be patrolling the waters throughout the weekend.
