Update – Water levels - Gatineau moves to monitoring mode

Gatineau, May 27, 2022. – Today, after five days of municipal crews on standby, we have solid projections, and they look good. However, it is essential that everyone understand the importance of remaining vigilant, and shoreline residents must remain at the ready.

Quick facts

The experts have cross-checked their projection models and everything points to levels remaining below flooding.
Thus, we can move from “emergency” to “monitoring” mode.
Gatineau crews remain on standby and ready to step in if necessary as the situation evolves.
The Emergency Operations Centre continues to maintain operations and coordinate monitoring and municipal action with its partners.
Shoreline residents are asked to remain vigilant and to keep checking for information on our:
- social media
- website
- alerts (be sure to sign up)
For people who have built dikes, we ask that you keep them as a preventative measure.
Residents can rest assured that Gatineau will inform them of any changes.
As you know, earlier in the week:
- We were anticipating a scenario not unlike the one we faced in 2019.
- Within 48 hours, projections estimated that water levels would rise 2.27 metres.
Throughout the week:
- Data was collected in the field, and weather forecast models and observations of the impact on the rivers were monitored.
- The data used in the analyses fluctuated from day to day.
- The rainfall trajectory expected north of the Outaouais became more precise.
- The analyses confirmed that the flood levels would not be reached
