COVID-19 – Libraries reopen

Gatineau, July 8, 2020. – On July 9, all libraries will resume full services. The collections, reading areas and computer terminals will be accessible with physical distancing. Gatineau has introduced the applicable necessary health and safety measures.


Quick facts

On July 9, all libraries will reopen and resume their services.
Measures have been introduced to protect the health of visitors and staff in accordance with the instructions issued by the provincial government.
The number of visitors allowed in the libraries at any given time will be limited. Maximum capacity will be adapted to each library, but will not exceed 50 visitors.
Access to the collections and reading areas will be limited: one person or one family at a time will be able to access an aisle or use a table.
The number of seats will be reduced by approximately half to maintain physical distancing. The furniture will be regularly disinfected.
The number of computer terminals will be reduced by approximately half to maintain physical distancing. They will be disinfected after every user.
Members are encouraged to reserve their documents ahead of time through the catalogue.
Home delivery is available on demand to people aged 70 and over.
As a preventative measure, returned documents will be placed in quarantine for 24 hours before they are put back in circulation.
Documents borrowed before the shutdown must be returned before July 15 to avoid late fees.
New loans will be temporarily extended by one week.
Digital collections and online services remain available at all times.
The libraries have been gradually reopening since June 18. Since then, six of them have started offering their services without contact:
- Aurélien-Doucet (Hull sector);
- Bernard-Lonergan (Buckingham sector);
- Guy-Sanche (Gatineau sector);
- Lucien-Lalonde (Hull sector);
- Lucy-Faris (Aylmer sector); and
- Manise-Morin (Masson-Angers sector).
As indicated, the other four libraries will reopen on July 9 with summer hours:
- Docteur-Jean-Lorrain (Gatineau sector);
- Jean-Marie-Caron (Masson-Angers sector);
- Maison-du-Citoyen (Hull sector); and
- Riviera (Gatineau sector).
