Winterlude's Snowflake Kingdom 2018 a glowing success!

Gatineau, February 19, 2018. – Today is the last day to visit the 2018 Snowflake Kingdom. Thanks to exceptional conditions, this edition has been a glowing success.

Quick facts

The Snowflake Kingdom remains the annual get-together and high point of winter for many Gatineau families.
Loads of fun for everyone, all for free, at the new site!
Gatineau's very own Daniel Coutu, the event spokesperson, was on hand to mingle and chat with visitors.
Despite the change in location, there appeared to be no change in attendance compared to the average for the last few years. The most recent figures, compiled in 2017, showed 162,000 visitors.
More than 50 shows were offered free of charge, ranging from Atchoum's rock to folk.
More than 5,000 youngsters were introduced to downhill skiing or snowboarding.
Humanoid, the interactive digital art projection, dazzled visitors with its artistic display of sound and light.
Close to 200 school groups turned out for some fun on the giant winter playground!
Visitors came from as far away as France, China, and even New Zealand.
Numerous media covered the Snowflake Kingdom for their audiences back home.
Several bloggers and influencers came to check out the event.
The overlap with the Winter Olympics in Pyongyang provided a terrific opportunity for a special tribute to Canadian Olympian Nancy Greene. A giant sculpture depicting her is still visible on the slides structure. It is the highest ever produced at the Snowflake Kingdom.
More than 40,000 cubic metres of snow were made for the site, which extends over more than 55,000 square metres.

Thank you to our volunteers and partners!

Year after year, more than 400 volunteers help make the festival a fun experience for visitors.
The Snowflake Kingdom is a co-production of Ville de Gatineau and Canadian Heritage.
Quebec's ministère du Tourisme and ministère de la Culture et des Communications contribute financially to the event's success.
Thank you to Tim Hortons, Saint-Hubert, Fondation du Cégep de l'Outaouais and CTM, all of which also contribute to the event.

It's not over yet!

The Snowflake Kingdom is open until 4 p.m. today.
There is still time to take advantage of the slides and the rest of the site. There will be lots of shows, including the extreme aerial acrobatics and the trampo-wall show!
See you next year for the 41st edition of Winterlude from February 1 to 18, 2019.
