Gatineau conducting a voluntary and preventive evacuation of parc Riviera
Gatineau, October 30, 2017. – Gatineau is in the process of conducting a voluntary and preventive evacuation of parc Riviera. Due to the heavy rainfall, one sector of parc Riviera has been isolated.
Evacuation of parc Riviera
● | Police and firefighters are now at parc Riviera helping residents. The park is currently closed. |
● | Approximately 20 people evacuated voluntarily. Additional voluntary evacuations may follow. |
● | Société de transport de l'Outaouais (STO) buses have been requisitioned. |
● | Centre communautaire Le Baron on rue Du Barry is open to receive the evacuees. The Red Cross is also on site. - 20 evacuees have reported at the centre.

● | Our staff will ensure that the evacuations proceed safely. |
Crews have been deployed throughout Gatineau
Police
- are at parc Riviera;
- are assisting the Service de sécurité incendie;
- are monitoring road conditions; and
- are working with the Service des travaux publics to close streets as required.
Firefighters
- are at parc Riviera;
- are assisting residents with evacuations; and
- are providing tips on prevention
Service des travaux publics
- is closing or reopening streets as necessary, with the assistance of police;
- is securing the road network;
- is clearing culverts and drain wells;
- is following up as necessary on requests received by the 311 (CANU) non-emergency call centre; and
- is monitoring the roadways.

● | Drivers are asked to slow down when approaching areas where the water has accumulated on the street. |
Quick facts
● | Parc du Lac-Beauchamp is currently closed to employees and residents as a precaution. |
● | A map of affected streets has been posted on the municipal Web site. That map is being updated in real time, as information is confirmed by our municipal departments. |
● | Our departments are reopening certain streets. |
● | Between midnight and 1 p.m. today, CANU received 562 calls. Of those, 202 were to report sewer back-ups, and 77 were for blocked drain wells. The number of calls has now stabilized. |
● | Although water has accumulated in a number of areas, river levels have not yet reached the warning mark. |
● | Gatineau has an emergency measures plan for dealing with this type of situation. |
● | Gatineau thanks residents for their usual cooperation. |
