Spring flood: Redistribution of donated food and personal hygiene and cleaning products to flood victims

Gatineau, May 17, 2019. The donated food and products will be redistributed to flood victims on Saturday, May 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The baskets will be handed out at the following two distribution sites:
- polyvalente du Versant at 808 boulevard de la Cité, Gatineau sector, and
- centre alimentaire d'Aylmer at 67 rue Couvent, Aylmer sector.

Our partner, Moisson Outaouais, will be coordinating the redistribution of donated food and personal hygiene and cleaning products. This effort is made possible by the tremendous generosity of Gatineau residents. Gatineau thanks them for coming to the assistance of the flood victims.

Quick facts

How the redistribution will work

Flood victims will have to bring proof of residence (driver's licence or invoice).
They can go to either of the two distribution sites.
The number of baskets available at each distribution site is based on the number of households hit by the flood in each sector.
Flood victims in the Gatineau and Masson-Angers sectors are asked to go to polyvalente du Versant, and those in the Aylmer sector to the centre alimentaire d'Aylmer.

Polyvalente du Versant distribution site (808 boulevard de la Cité)

Flood victims must register at door number two.
They will then be directed to the back of the school to pick up their basket.

Centre alimentaire d'Aylmer distribution site (67 rue du Couvent)

Flood victims must go to the main door. Both the registration and the redistribution will take place there.

Baskets

The baskets include perishable and non-perishable food, a cleaning kit and personal hygiene products. A grocery gift card is also included. The amount will vary based on the number of people in the household.
- Non-perishable food (examples: breakfast cereal, peanut butter, fruit juice, pasta, canned meat and vegetables, and condiments)
- Perishable foods (examples: milk, cheese, yogurt, apples, oranges, carrots, potatoes and bread)
- Cleaning kits (examples: paper towels, bleach, wipes, rubber gloves, protective glasses, masks, brush)
- Personal hygiene products: (examples: toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, unisex deodorant)
- Sobey's (IGA and IGA Extra) gift card for groceries: $50 (1 to 3 people), $100 (4 to 7 people) and $150 (7 or more people).
Flood victims can also get vouchers for certain clothing items at different Saint-Vincent-de-Paul points of service.
In total, 18,468 kg of non-perishable goods, cleaning and personal hygiene products were collected. The cash value of those donations comes to over $105,200. More than 10,432 kg of clothes were also collected.
