Update: reintegration will continue today

Gatineau, September 23, 2018, 7:30 a.m. – The reintegration of the victims will continue today with the established plan. The reintegration will be done in stages, under the supervision of the fire department.

It is important that victims go to the victims centre and register. The centre is located at the Gabrielle-Roy campus of the Cégep de l'Outaouais. From 2 p.m. on September 23, the victims centre and register will be at Centre communautaire Père-Arthur-Guertin located at 16, rue Bériault. The ministère of the Sécurité publique has delegated 100% of victim's assistance to the Red Cross.

E-mail and text message (SMS) alerts are the ideal way to get urgent notices.

Status report

●	The streets in the hardest hit area remain closed to traffic. - Boulevard Saint-Joseph is now open to the circulation.

●	The public roads clean-up is still underway.

●	Waste containers were placed at five intersections in the affected area.

●	Citizens can drop tornado-related debris such as green debris and building materials. - de Deauville and Jumonville - Georges-Bilodeau and Étienne-Brûlé - Georges-Bilodeau and Jumonville - Jumonville and Daniel-Johnson - Jumonville and Tassé

●	At 7 a.m. on September 23: - Nearly 6,700 Hydro-Québec customers were still without electricity. All residences in the affected area are still without electricity. It is possible to follow the evolution of the situation on Hydro-Québec website. - Gazifère disconnected 40 meters

Victims centre and accommodation centre

●	Nearly 800 people registered at the victims center and register. - 225 people had accommodation assistance during the night of September 21 to 22 and 244 during the night of September 22 to 23.

●	Services are available to all victims who need support from the Red Cross.

●	Psychological support is also offered by the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSO).

●	The Salvation Army is present on the site to provide food to the victims.

Safety messages

●	People returning to their homes should be vigilant because there is still debris strewn about.

●	Gatineau asks victims who were evacuated not to return home until the authorities have given them the all clear.

●	Some traffic lights are still defective or out of service. It is important to come to a full stop at intersections where the traffic lights are not working.

●	Residents are asked to avoid driving by the affected sectors unless necessary: - due to safety concerns about possible obstacles (branches, electrical cables, debris, etc.) in the streets; - to enable crews to work, secure and clean the streets; and - out of respect for the victims.

●	After a tornado: - be careful with any debris such as tarps, glass or other items that could cut and injure; - do not touch electrical cables on the ground or hanging because they may be live, but do contact Hydro-Québec; and

●

Food conservation: - In case of a power outage lasting more than eight hours, discard all perishables in your refrigerator. This applies to such things as meat, poultry, fish, dairy products and eggs. - Frozen food can be kept in the freezer for up to 48 hours if it is not opened. Discard any partially thawed food.

Volunteers

●

Residents wishing to help the victims will be able to drop off donations at the former Sears location on the ground floor of Galeries de Hull (320 boul. Saint-Joseph, Hull sector). Donations will be accepted starting doday, Sunday September 23, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and throughout the rest of the week during business hours. Only clean clothing in good condition, personal hygiene products and non-perishable foods will be accepted.

●	Gatineau thanks all residents wishing to volunteer their help. At this point, it is too early to identify any specific requirements. We will reach out to residents as required.
